Team Motivation Tips for Direct Sellers

Congratulations! You've grown a team of excited new consultants that are eager to share the products and create an impact, just like you! While actually recruiting new team members is a daunting task for most direct sellers, supporting a team is quite another. 

At Direct Sales on Demand, we understand that keeping your team motivated and excited about their business is just as important as your next party. As direct sellers ourselves, we have some tried and true methods for building and sustaining an awesome team!

1. Personal Outreach

Stay in touch with your people...individually! A team page is nice, but nothing beats that personal 1:1 connection. Let your teammates know you value them by regularly checking in.

2. Birthdays

It doesn't matter how old we get, there's something special about a birthday! Surprise your team with a special note, shoutout, or gift on their birthday.

3. Connect them to each other

The last thing you want is for your team to rely solely on you. That makes it almost impossible to step away for a break or to focus on your own business. Create a team culture where everyone is invested in each other by helping build connections within the team from the start.

4. Recognize hard work

Everyone loves a shoutout for a job well done! Find out how your team likes to be celebrated and be sure to congratulate them when they're working hard, showing up, and helping others. 

5. Celebrate Milestones

Many companies have their own way of celebrating achievements or milestones on a monthly or yearly basis. You can have your own way of celebrating on your team when someone reaches these special goals, or create your own that support your team's goals and values.

6. Show and Tell

Walk your team through what you do. Don't assume that they know everything you do. We all have our own unique talents, so share your secrets! Your team will perform better and stay motivated if they can peek behind the curtain to see how it's done.

7. Share Your Experiences

Good, bad, and the ugly - share them all! Be open and honest with your team about the experiences you've had as a direct seller. Empathize and relate to them during difficult seasons and talk openly about your goals and what you're working on.

8. Be Open

Transparency goes a long way in building a quality team culture. It's okay to talk about your failures and what you've learned just as it's okay to share what is working for you. As long as you come at it from a positive angle, open conversation is important for team trust.

9. Communicate Well

And often! We tend to worry about oversharing or bothering people but rest assured that more information is better than too little. Be sure your team stays up to date on what is happening with the company and in direct sales culture.

10. Be Creative

Only you know your team best! Think outside the box a little and try new things once in a while to keep the team excited about their work and motivated to keep showing up.
